Tow Boat - H. T. Pott 1933
Sometimes called our Museum's Navy is the tow boat H.T. Pott. Built in 1932 the H.T. Pott was the first all welded steel hull tow boat on the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers. The tow boat is 58 feet long, has a 15 feet beam, and with a 6 foot draft. It was powered by a 140 hp diesel. H.T. Pott operated out of Kansas City, MO. Tentative plans have it moving down to near our new visitor center and hopefully we may see it a float again. The H. T. Pott was built here in St. Louis and named for river transportation executive Herman T. Pott. It is interesting that the boat is called a "towboat" even though it pushed barges (tows) from the back rather than pulling them.
