1743 St Louis PCC / SFO 1164

PS PCC Car #1743 was built in St. Louis by the St. Louis Car Company. It was delivered to St Louis Public Service Company (PSC) in September 1946. It remained in operation in St Louis until 1957 when it was leased to the Municipal Railway (MUNI) of San Francisco. In 1963, the car was formally purchased by MUNI. It remained in San Francisco until 1982. It was then moved to the East Troy Railroad Museum in Wisconsin where is remained for several years. The car was moved to the Museum of Transportation by the Trolley Volunteers, where it was ran for a short time just outside of the Abbot Building then stored after PTC #2740 was aquired. In 1990, MUNI (who still held the title to the car) traded it to the Museum of Transportation.

After a nearly 10 year restoration effort, which included cosmetic, structural and electrical repairs. A main framing member under the rear of the car was badly rusted. Late in 2004, MTTV purchased fabricated framing members to replace this rusted part.

The car was returned to service on May 21, 2016 which was the 50th anniversary of the end of streetcar operations in St Louis.
