Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority
PCC # 2740 - 1947

This PCC-type streetcar was constructed by the St. Louis Car Company in 1947.  The Electric Railway President's Conference Committee conducted an extensive research project in the 30's to develop a state-of-the-art streetcar.  The result was that an estimated 15,000 of this type were built worldwide and they became known as the "PCC" design cars.  At one time St. Louis had in service about 300 PCC cars but our trolley service ended in 1967.  Between 1995 and 1997 number 2740 was restored to operation and is often seen in service on summer weekends at MOT where it began operation in 1998.  It is now painted in its original colors, those of the Philadelphia Transportation Company, the predecessor of the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority. Number 2740 was purchased by Museum Trolley Volunteers for the museum.
