Built by Davenport-Bester Corporation, the number 1149 is a
1-B-1 experimental gas-turbine locomotive which has two Boeing
502-2E, 150HP jet engine, type gas turbines and was tested by
the Army at Fort Eustis, VA. It was donated to the museum in
1980 by its designer R. Tom Sawyer.
Did You Realize: Lake Street Elevated RR #9, "Charles H.,"
was named for Charles H. Deere, son of plow maker John Deere
and a member of the line's Board of Directors in 1893?
